Fantasy Mentor Recruit #1: Jane Espenson (Writer, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, The O.C., Gilmore Girls and more)

IS TV writing the best job ever?!?!

Well, it’s starting to seem like it…that is…if I can manage to write my bottom off and get gooood. Nay. Great!

Loved stumbling upon this little essay Jane Espenson wrote about what it’s like to be a TV writer.  She has an envious writing resume (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, The O.C., Gilmore Girls).  Even better? Straight from IMDB:

Invented the name of the drink “Zima” while working for a marketing firm.

Whaaa?!??!  That is some SERIOUS 90s comedy cred.  Why? “Zima” gave many an American joy and laughter from all jokes for which it was a punchline.

Here I am, throwing it out into the universe: Jane Espenson is officially going on my recruit list for “Fantasy Mentor”!!!

’m not someone who particularly cares about Christmas. I didn’t grow up doing much for the holiday, so my emotional attachment is pretty limited. But that’s what makes Gilmore Girls’ “Forgiveness And Stuff” the perfect holiday-viewing choice for me. I grew up in England, where, weirdly, Gilmore Girls aired its first three seasons on Nickelodeon at 6 p.m. (The show was never treated particularly well over there.) “Forgiveness And Stuff,” in fact, was the first time I ever saw the show. ‘
